Day 16/365 Bible in a Year

Today I read Genesis 8-11 amongst all my inbetween class studying. I also finish Crazy Love by Francis Chan, but that's another story completely. A very awakening book, nonetheless.
Chapter 8
We are still with Moses. Still on that same old ark. Still trusting God to save us before we run out of food. (Putting yourself in the story helps you remember it better.) Well, God remembered them all and the rain stopped pouring. The flood went down and the ark ended up on top of a very tall mountain. They waited 40 days and other mountain tops finally started poppin up like daisies. So Noah sent out a black raven who flew back and forth between the boat and vacant pieces of earth that stuck up until the earth was dried enough to stay out. He also let a white dove outto go find land to stay on, but the dove kept coming back because there was no land dry enough to live on. A week later he let the dove go again and it brought an olive leaf back. Then again a week later he let the dove go and it didn't come back. But they waited 2 more months on this boat..!!! UGH!!! But you know? Noah was patient in waiting this long on the most likely cramped boat. When the land dried up completely, God told them all to get on the boat. And Noah built an altar to the Lord. And God promised not to ever kill all of His creation again.

Chapter 9
I'll attempt to be less wordy here haha!
God told them all to repopulate the earth, and so they did. He told them that if anyone killed another person that they will be killed by human hands in return. He told them they could eat the animals, but not the humans (duh!) Then God also promises that He will never flood the whole earth again. RAINBOW!!!
One day Noah gets really drunk and ends up naked in his tent. Ham finds him and instead of covering him he runs off to tell the other brothers, embarassing Noah even more than before. The other two brothers, Shem and Japheth ran into the tent to cover their father up before anyone else saw him. Then Noah cursed Ham's son Canaan to be slaves to Shem and Japheth because instead of taking care of Noah, Ham just told others about his nudity. Wow!

Chapter 10
I did better that time with the wording..maybe better this time?
There is an account of geneaology from verses 1-31 and verse 32 tells you that you just read all the clans of Noah. :D

Chapter 11
Wow, that was short, but there was only names so.....
This is by far one of my favorite passages (chapter 11) I'm not sure why.. I think it's because God shows that He and He ONLY is in control of His creations accomplishments. I love it.
Once upon a time......no for real.. once upon a time EVERYONE on this entire earth spoke the SAME language?! What!? You bet.
Well...they all decided to build a great tower in Babylonia.. a tower that touched the sky. A tower that would show how amazing and awesome they are. How much THEY could achieve. How much THEY THEMSELVES could do for THEMSELVES and THEMSELVES only.. Not God.
When the God on the universe literally SEES everything you do, think, hear, touch, smell, and feel....why in the world would you want to basically tell Him He means nothing to you????!??!?!!?!?!?!!!!!
You would have to be crazy... well these people were.
God saw what they were doing and scattered their language. They couldn't understand eachother. Without communication they couldn't tell eachother their selfish needs, without the things they "needed" they couldn't build the tower, and without the tower there was no putting themselves up higher than our God.
Then there is the geneaology of Shem all the way to Abram. Abram marries Sarai, Terah dies, and Lot, Abram, and Sarai end up in Ur together.

So basically, I know this scripture isn't in Genesis, but it has a LOT to do with the Tower of Babel.

Psalm 127:1-2

"Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builder is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to His loved ones."

In another form, and simply put,

"Unless the Lord builds the house those who build it labor in vain." Psalm 127:1

Prayer/Praise

Life is grand, God is great!

Meeting @ Java's

Today...Was...

This morning.. and I do mean EARLY this morning, I had an old friend of mine tell me I was white trash because I have a quote on quote mediocre job as a "cashier or dishwasher or whatever you are" (even though he cooks chicken in the back of chicken express) and go to a community college!? What in the world. At least I have a job that I somewhat enjoy and go to college unlike some people do or even can. Then he tried to say that my relationship with my fiance (2 years and goin strong) was crappy because we don't even know what the "married life" is. Heads up? He's not married either, he's engaged to someone he JUST started dating in September. I told him that I'm glad that me and Matt are a shotgun relationship. But any way all I was trying to to was stand up for my friend that he was talking trash about for no reason, and look where that got me?! What is this world coming to? You try to help someone out and you just get talked to like your trash for going to nursing school.

Then I slept like... eight hours, so refreshing... got up, cleaned the house, took a shower, ate a (you guessed it!) hotpocket! Then I played with the dogs, studied what the first classes this week will be about. Prayed, read my bible and went to town to wait in a car....for an hour...then I came back home to get my sister..

We went shopping!!

I got a new pair of tennis shoes and a new pair of flats! Which I am glad to say I am breaking in right as I'm typing!!!

Anyway, now I'm about to call my baby, take a shower, and call my baby again. Read a chapter in my Bible that isn't part of the Bible in a Year for today. I am so glad that I have God in my life. I don't know what it would be like in life without Him. Thank you Jesus! Thank you for dying for me.

I start class in the morning!!! I have to get up at 6 AM :D Straighten my hair, brush my teeth, put some eyeliner on, and get cute-ified. Night guys!

Great News!!

God led me to speak to someone last night about my faith. Actually it was a few someones, but only one actually pulled me aside to talk to it more. He wanted to be saved. So I told him the story of Jesus and his miracles and his teaching and how He died for us. Then I asked him some questions and prayed with him. He accepted Christ right there. It was so amazing. I am so happy God used me like that. Ahhhh!!!! So excited, I want to do this more!

So Excited!

Class starts Wednesday morning for me guys! My major? Nursing. Am I nevous? Yes. Excited? You bet ya!

What am I more excited about? Reading my Bible in a year! I was supposed to start yesterday, but I decided it better to begin on a Sunday. A day of rest, a day to think, a day to begin new things, and day to relax and pray.

I start my reading today at Romans chapters 1 and 2. Join me? There is no time like the now. Amen? Amen.

One Year Dedication

Isn't it funny how you can talk your problems over with a friend and everything goes uphill afterward? I love this phenomenon. One minute I'm falling down away from God, the next moment after a conversation about what was going on I am feeling a ton better. I am starting today at around 11:00 AM by starting my reading plan for my Bible. The Bible in a year.

This might be hard, but I think (know) I can do it. Prayers would be awesome!

How Can They Come To Fruition?

1) "Get closer to God, no matter what happens or needs to happen."

This is going to be easy most times and hard the rest of the time. The words "no matter what happens or needs to happen" can mean a LOT! I could die, or someone close to me could die. Somethings horrible could happen to me or someone close to me, but no matter what happens I will ALWAYS stay close to God and keep growing closer to Him. What needs to happen is me spending one tenth of my time with God., DAILY! That's, if I calculated it right, about two and a half hours a day.


2) "Don't fall away from God, no matter what happens or needs to happen."

This will be just as easy as writing a book in three days. Just in case you didn't catch that, it will be difficult. I am engaged to be married soon and my fiance is extremely attractive. That in itself is a one-up and a pit-fall in this life. We chose to not live in sin and not have sex until we get married. It is very hard and gets even harder the closer it gets to the wedding. But, we are succeeding with prayer. This one falls in with the first resolution I made.

3) "Do not complain, even if it IS the hardest thing to have to do."

Complaining is one of the things I do the most, expecially at work. So to vow not to complain this year means so much to me. If something doesn't go the way I plan for it to go, the first thing I think of doing is complaining.

4) "Do not gossip."

One of the aspects of this world that just erks at me the most is gossip. I cannot stand when someone is gossiping about someone who can't stand up for themselves right then. But to be totally and completely honest, I have caught myself either about to say something or half way into saying something gossipy. In a way I am a hypocrite, but in others, I am only human. Thanks Eve.

5) "Work out daily or at the least, four times a week."

This isn't new for me, but I plan on being more commited this year than usual. I have to get to my goal weight before I buy my wedding dress in late April. Plus it will make me feel better, healthier.

6) "Keep a healthy diet."

This is newish for me, I got so used to being in high school and not having to worry about my diet because I was always going, going, going. Now I am not going so much I have gained a few pounds. This is for me and me only. I want to live a healthy life.

7) "Cook more often."

I don't want to eat out all the time. Eww! I usually eat my mom's cooking. We hardly ever eat out, but I need to learn how to cook before I move out and I am moving out pretty soon. This would be good experience for me.

8) "Clean out my life."

This involves cleaning my room, my car, and moving. Also, it includes saving money to afford these things such as bills and school.

9) "Plan and accomplish our wedding."

We began planning our wedding in November. We are so excited about it and hope that it turns out to be as great as we are imagining it to be. I'm more excited than Matt I think. Ahhh!

10) "Marry my fiance, Matt."

Kind of a dead give away that this one is going to happen. We are so in love. It's almost like a novel. But all things said and done, this is going to be the highlight of our year, also it ties in with the resolution number nine.

11) "Move out of my parents' house and into an apartment."

This is one I plan on fulfilling before I get married. I will be moving in with one of my best friends, Alli. From January to August. In June Matt will live with us and share my room for a few months and then we will get our own apartment. This has to do with the resolution number eight.

12) "Save money."

I have chosen to spend less money on EVERYTHING. Cheaper things = more money saved.

13) "Don't buy anymore books until I finish the ones I have already bought. *This one will be hard, seeing as how I am a book fiend*"

This has to do in part with the resolution number twelve. I spend way too much money on books.

14) "Start school this summer."

This is one of the things I am saving money for. I am trying for scholarships. I am putting back money for my life. One day it will al lfall together the way it should be.

15) "Stay dedicated in the organization I started called 'Spread the News to Nacogdoches'."

I plan on staying tightly knit with this group because this is one things that I feel God has called me to do. I felt Him call me to be a mssionary in June 2009 and this is the second action I will be taking toward foreign missions. It is a local mission.
